TSIMLYANSKAYA ZONE OF VITICULTURE
IS ONE OF THE OLDEST IN Russia

Before submersion Tsimlyanskie vineyards were mostly located on the banks of the river Don. In the place where Don came to the valley side and Sarkel fortress was located, passengers travelling by the river could see 40-meters long emerald green wall.

Bunches of grapes shimmered in it like numerous violet disseminations. If looking sideways grape trellises turned into one solid mass. It seemed to be vertical and reminded a fantastic scenery.

Filling of Tsinlyanskoe storage pong began in 1952. Old cossacks’ vineyards occurred in the zone of submersion. To save them people had to relocate them to the plateau both manually and with the help of machines. Now our vineyards occupy more than 1000 ha. Among them you can find saved unique aborigine sorts such as Tsimlyansky Black, Pletchistik and Krasnostop Zolotovsky.

They have no genetic affinity among famous European wine grapes. Due to their geographical position and climate peculiarity, all Tsimlyanskie vineyards are covered and belong to the most northern zone of Russian industrial viticulture. Their singularity is in the fact that there is no necessity in intense chemical proceeding in the period of maturation. That allows to consider Tsimlyanskoe wine to be organic one.

ДDon viticulture zone is located on the right bank of the River Don. Annual rain fall varies from 350 to 450 mm. Soils are black soil and dark chestnut soil. But limestone appears in subsoil and especially on the slopes in the little depth. Vegetation period is enough for full maturation of grapes, but periodical early autumn frosts can be dangerous.
